R Bar by Rockpool

R Bar is a little bit luxe with a whole lot of soul. A plush ensemble of dark timber with black granite, burnished brass features, bronze mirror paneling and sweeping velvet curtains dropping from a double height ceiling filled with a collection of bespoke pendants. The clients wanted to evoke the intimacy and ambience of a hidden 1920 cocktail bar within the busy lobby of Crown Melbourne. The concept was to evoke a cozy hidden bar within the sprawling Crown complex and to evoke the feeling of a hidden high-end European Hotel Lobby Bar.

The short turnaround time and having to utilize existing lighting points created a creative challenge but one that turned out for the best.

The existing double height ceiling is filled with bespoke pendants throughout that imbue the space with a feeling of intimacy and is used to draw the eye through to the “hidden areas” beyond.

ensuring that the existing downlights were replaced with narrow LED globes and aimed to the tables and artwork to provide focus and visual punctuation points.
